You Guys. It’s officially fall now. I’m so excited.
And I’m kind of disappointed that I’m going to get so much flak for being excited about it and getting thrown into the #basic category. Maybe a lot of people like fall, especially white girls, but they’ve got good reasons, and I’ve got mine.
Um, my birthday is in October, right in the thick of fall. And while I just keep getting older (it’s number 27 this year), I’m embracing aging and experiences, and I happen to like my birthday.
Our anniversary is in the beginning of September. So no, it’s not officially fall yet, but if we start treating the weather like it’s summer in the beginning of June, then I treat all of September as fall. December is NOT fall. I think it’s high time we readjusted things.
I don’t like the heat. I don’t like the humidity. I don’t like all the bugs and feeling like I’m going to die. I also don’t like water a whole lot, so it’s not like I bask for a dip in the pool to cool off.
I’m pale. I used to tan easily when I was a kid and outside all the time, but now I don’t since I entered the world of working years ago.
With that, I don’t like wearing shorts. I always missing my knees when I shave.
Okay, I’m addressing all the things I don’t like about summer, so I apologize to the summer lovers and to people in general for complaining. So I’ll get back to why I love fall.
The clothing. Like I said, I don’t look good in shorts. Or bright colors. I look better in muted colors and jewel tones, and those are fall things. When I was first dating my husband, he actually told his mom I was made for fall, because those jewel tones and chunky sweaters and tall boots to accentuate my long legs – those fit me. So why would I not like fall fashion? Also, it’s like, always fun to transition to different looks. Winter is when those clothes get boring.
Less crowds. I can take my daughter to the zoo, where the animals are more active, and we don’t have to deal with a lot of people. Not that I don’t like people, but I like being able to see what I came for, and not worry about losing her amongst a herd of people.
The weather is wonderful, for as long as we get it, anyway.
I live in Indiana, so I get to enjoy the myriad of colors. It’s GORG-E-O-U-S.
Apples and pumpkins everywhere. I grew up going to the orchard with my family, and my mom would make so. Much. Applesauce. We’d also get homemade apple pies she’d make, too, and friends would give us pumpkin bread. I don’t think I’m #basic for liking what I grew up with. My mom is a fabulous cook, in case you weren’t sure.
The activities. Orchard visits, Friday night football games, hayrides, bonfires, camping… I love it.
It’s leading up to Christmas. I’m not a fan of Halloween, but I do love dressing up my kiddo in something adorable, and I love the upcoming holiday season.
Hot tea. Hot chocolate. Pumpkin spice latte. I don’t care what your drink of choice is, but now you get to enjoy it.
Fall, I love you.
