Have you ever heard of Printic?
I had, but it wasn’t until I was asked to do a review of the app that I really looked into it. Printic is an app that lets you print any picture on your phone in polaroid style. I was intrigued, and couldn’t pass up free credits, so I downloaded the app and got started.
The app itself is free, while printing pictures cost a dollar each. To me, it’s a bit pricey, but it’s a fun way to showcase your prints. You have to create a profile, including your address (they need to know where to send it, after all), and also purchase credits to print your pictures. Coupons and special deals are sometimes available, especially if you opt to receive emails from Printic.
Printic may need access to your photos, which you can provide through your privacy settings on your phone. Just go to General Settings>Privacy>Photos, and grant Printic access. You can also choose to access pictures on your Instagram or Facebook account, which you can do directly on the Printic app.
Once you choose the pictures you want printed, you can do some editing on them by touching the pencil icon. If you want a filter added, you’ll have to do that beforehand, but on Printic you can choose to print multiple copies of one picture, crop that picture, or add text.
Once you’ve done that, you click Next, and it will prompt you to enter in a new address, or choose the one you’ve already provided when setting up your profile. If it’s to someone else, you can include a message for them.
Once you finalize the order, you’ll get a confirmation email.
The prints came pretty quickly, at least it seemed like it. I ordered the pictures on a Saturday and it came about a week later in a cute double envelope.
I stuck them on the fridge for all the world to see.
So what did I think about Printic, you may be wondering?
All in all, it’s a cute idea. It’s a fun way to keep copies of your Instagram pictures. Like I said earlier, it is kind of pricey – while you can get prints from a drugstore for 10 cents each, you’re getting a smaller version of the picture for 1 dollar each. I do like how easy the process is to select prints and have them sent to anyone you want.
When I first ordered prints, I had to order a minimum of three. But when I went to do it again, I only had to select one. I don’t mind having to buy a couple at a time – it’s more cost-effective shipping and printing-wise, but I don’t know why the minimum order changed for me. Maybe it’s only the first time you order from Printic, I don’t know.
Another thing to keep in mind when selecting pictures is that some of the quality is lost when printed. (Also, the paper thickness is the typical thickness, it’s not similar to a polaroid other than look – which isn’t a bad thing, just be aware going in.) It’s not awful, but the images aren’t as sharp when Printic takes them from your phone. So if you’re going to spend a dollar to print a picture, make sure it’s of good quality.
It’s a fun gift idea or a way to preserve a really special moment. Plus if you’re like me and you yearn for the past, you’ll like the look of Printic prints.
