How to make a DIY headboard you’ll love, that you can afford, and that works as wall art.
I love a good headboard, but back when we bought our current house, we had no money to spend on things like that. Psh, we still don’t.
But that’s okay. I did this instead, and years later it’s still on my wall.

How to make a DIY headboard
…Of sorts. We all love the finished look of an attached headboard, but you can find other ways to dress up the bedroom. I did just that with only $25 and a DIY headboard.
I bought two 2-pack canvases that were 16″x20″ for $7 each, three bottles of the most-affordable acrylic paint, and some cheapo sponge brushes.
Then I went to Pinterest (of course!) and found pictures with an inspirational design. Later I found an Etsy shop owner that paints similar artwork. These are beautiful and whimsical. If you want the painted artwork look but don’t want to create it, this is the place to start.
If you read my post about how much I love painting but how bad I am at it, then you know not to expect much.
But I created a pseudo headboard anyway.
I picked up some affordable canvases, paints, and brushes. And then I used paper plates for the paint. I mean, if I’m going to save money, might as well cut corners every where, am I right?
You’ll have to excuse the quality of these pictures. They’re actually from back in the day. Back when we used point-and-shoot cameras.
All for 25 smackers.
